Two people were found dead Friday in the South Branch of the Chicago River.

Someone on a passing boat spotted the first body floating face-down in the river about 6:40 a.m. near the 2700 block of South Damen Avenue, according to Chicago police.

The CPD Marine Unit responded and relocated the male’s body to the river near Western to be removed, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office told investigators he was likely in the water for about three days.

As Marine Unit crews were returning from the call about 8 a.m., they found a second body in the river near the 2400 block of South Halsted Street, police said. The male was wearing a dark T-shirt, camouflage pants and was “badly decomposed.”

A Waukegan man was tased and arrested Saturday after a two-hour standoff with police at a north suburban Beach Park home.

Lake County sheriff’s deputies were first called to the home in the 12400 block of Victoria Lane about 7:20 a.m. for reports of a domestic dispute, the Lake County sheriff’s office said. When they arrived, they learned that one of the people involved, 45-year-old Brian Harper, was wanted for driving on a revoked driver’s license and failure to appear on aggravated fleeing and eluding charges.

Harper barricaded himself inside the home as officers approached, though the female who made the initial 911 call was able to get out, the sheriff’s office said. Harper then allegedly began taunting officers, telling them they would have to kick the door down and come get him.

About two hours into the standoff, Harper agreed to surrender and briefly opened a garage service door before slamming it shut again as officers approached, the sheriff’s office said. At that point, officers breached the door and tased Harper after he allegedly resisted arrest.

Harper was taken into custody and charged with criminal damage to property and resisting a peace officer, the sheriff’s office said.

He is being held on $150,000 bail.

UPDATE WITH ID, AUTOPSY

Normal CTA Red Line service is resuming after a woman who fell on the tracks at the South Loop Roosevelt station died and two people were hospitalized, authorities said.

About 5:46 a.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of South State Street for reports of a person on the tracks at the Roosevelt station, Chicago police said. They found a woman under a rail in the restricted area with signs of electrocution.

Ebony Redmond, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s said. An autopsy conducted Saturday ruled her death an accident, saying she died of electrocution by falling onto the third rail.

Two Chicago Transit Authority employees, a man and a woman, suffered panic attacks and were taken to Mercy Hospital where their conditions were stabilized, according to police and the Chicago Fire Department.

Service was suspended shortly before 6 a.m. for the emergency at the Roosevelt station, the CTA said in an alert.

Trains bypassed Roosevelt while authorities investigated, but normal service to all stations resumed with residual delays by 9:14 a.m., the CTA said.
