UPDATE: Man suspected in shooting chased then shot by CPD officer

Chicago Police officers chased then shot a man several times who they suspect was involved in another shooting nearby in East Garfield Park early Sunday.

Officers were on a routine patrol in the 3400 block of West Madison at 12:23 a.m. when they heard several shots fired, according to Chicago Police. The officers saw a man running away and chased him into an alley in the 3300 block of West Monroe.

The man then confronted police with a weapon and one of the officers discharged his weapon striking the man multiple times, police said. Other officers administered first-aid to the man and called for emergency medical services.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His age and condition were not provided early Sunday.

No officers were injured during the incident, police said. A weapon was recovered from the scene.

Police found a 51-year-old woman in 3400 block of West Madison with a gunshot wound to her chest, police said. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where her condition was stabilized. It is unclear if there was a second woman injured in this incident.

An investigation into the use of force and the specifics of the shooting are being conducted by the Independent Police Review Authority. The officer involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative duties for a period of 30 days.
