Man wanted for Streeterville sex assault: police

A man is wanted by police for allegedly sexually assaulting someone in the Streeterville neighborhood.

He was riding a mountain bike before dawn Tuesday in the 200 block of East Pearson when he made inappropriate physical contact with a victim, Chicago police said.

The incident happened between 3:20 a.m. and 5:12 a.m., police said.

The suspect is thought to be between 20 and 25 years old, and between 5-feet-6 and 5-feet-8, police said.

He was wearing a black baseball cap, black glasses, a multi-colored jacket, dark pants with reflective stripes over each calf, and black socks over the cuffs, police said. He also wore dark gym shoes with white soles and laces.

17-year-old missing from Bronzeville

A 17-year-old girl has been reported missing from the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side.

Dayonna Williams was last seen Sept. 6 in the 3600 block of South Rhodes Avenue, according to Chicago police.

Williams is 5-feet-4 and about 120 pounds, police said.

Chicago man followed teen off bus before sexually assaulting her in Burbank alley: police

A 22-year-old man has been charged sexually assaulting a teenage girl on her way to school Monday in southwest suburban Burbank.

Marquis Myles, of Chicago, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated robbery and robbery, Burbank police said in a statement. He was on parole at the time for weapons charge.

Myles allegedly followed the 14-year-old girl off of the 79th Street PACE bus about 7:40 a.m. on Monday, police said. The area was busy with traffic at the time, police said.

As the 14-year-old girl walked to St. Laurence High School, he threatened her with a gun and forced her into an alley in the 7800 block of Central Avenue, police said.

On Tuesday, police released several surveillance images of the suspect. Myles was arrested Wednesday evening, according to police

Before the assault, Myles had finished a shift at his temp job at PACTIV Corporation in Burbank, police said. He had only be assigned to work in Burbank for a week through Elite Staffing of Chicago. Police said he was taking public transportation to get to and from work, and did not know his victim.

Myles is due for a bail hearing Friday at the Cook County courthouse in Bridgeview, police said.

Arrest warrant issued in second Dolton shooting involving women

Dolton police have issued a second arrest warrant after a trio of homicides involving women in the south suburb.

The new warrant was issued in the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Angelneka Smith, who was struck by a stray bullet during an argument Sunday at a private club at 144th Place and South King Drive, Dolton Police Chief Ernest Mobley said Thursday in a news conference.

Mobley also said that charges were pending in the murder of 40-year-old Marshia Bowman. An 18-year-old man was arrested Wednesday afternoon in the 5600 block of South Aberdeen in Chicago.

Police issued an arrest warrant in that case about a week ago. Bowman was struck by gunfire on Aug. 21 while driving her four kids near Sibley and Chicago roads, police said. The suspected shooter, who is not being identified because he hasn’t been formally charged, faces a single count of first-degree murder, Mobley said.

he third attack left 16-year-old Akeira Boston dead Aug. 27 outside the Moonlight Food Deli & Liquor Store at 1203 E. 142nd St, according to authorities. No arrests have been made.

Mobley said that none of the attacks were connected.

Man shot on Lower West Side

A 23-year-old was wounded in a shooting Thursday in the Heart of Chicago on the Lower West Side.

He was walking in the 1800 block of West 21st Place about 2:10 p.m. we he heard gunfire and realized he was hit, Chicago police said.

He was struck in the leg and taken to Stroger Hospital, police said. His condition had stabilized.

No arrests have been made, police said.

2 wounded in Humboldt Park shooting

Two men were shot and wounded Thursday in Humboldt Park on the West Side.

About 3:15 p.m., they were standing in the 3300 block of West Le Moyne Street when a vehicle approached and someone inside fired shots, Chicago police said.

Both men, 19 and 22, were struck in the leg, police said. They were taken to Norwegian-American Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized.


Man dies week after Calumet City shooting

(CALUMET CITY) A man shot last week in Calumet City has died of his wounds.

Joshua Pilgrim was shot multiple times on Sept. 5 in the 300 block of Hirsch Avenue in the south suburb, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Pilgrim, who lived in Calumet City, was pronounced dead almost a week later on Sept. 11, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

Calumet police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Pilgrim’s death is the second fatal shooting in Calumet City in a week.

On Sept. 6, Tyreese Cooper was shot about 4:50 p.m. in the 2000 block of Sibley Boulevard, authorities said. He was taken to a trauma center, where the 26-year-old died. Cooper lived in Country Club Hills.

Calumet City has logged eight homicides so far this year, according to data from the medical examiner’s office. That’s an increase compared to three homicides in 2018 and two in 2017, according to the data.

Man dies months after he’s shot in West Pullman

A man shot in April on the Far South Side has died of his injuries.

Morris Jones, 36, died Aug. 27 at the hospice unit at Mercy Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy found he died of complications of a gunshot wound to his neck.

Jones was shot months earlier on April 22 in a drive-by in the first block of East 119th Street, authorities said at the time.

Police said he was shot in the face and taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center. He lived about a block away from where he was shot, the medical examiner’s office said.

3 men wounded in Englewood shooting

Three men were shot Thursday in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

A group of men were hanging out in an alley in the 6700 block of South Winchester at 8:43 p.m. when a dark-colored vehicle approached and an occupant fired shots, Chicago police said.

The vehicle took off and left three men wounded, police said.

One man, 48, was shot in the head and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said. His condition stabilized.

A 47-year-old, struck in the leg, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, police said. His condition was stabilized.

The third man, 49, was shot in the leg, police said. His condition was stabilized at St. Bernard Hospital.

No arrests have been made, police said.

Woman, 19, shot in East Garfield Park

A 19-year-old woman was wounded in a shooting Thursday in East Garfield Park.

She was exiting the passenger side of a vehicle about 9:45 p.m. in the 3100 block of West Madison Street when someone on foot fired shots, Chicago police said.

The woman was struck twice in the leg, police said. She took herself to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where her condition was stabilized.

Investigators were unsure if the woman was the intended target, police said.

A 25-year-old man was wounded Thursday after he shot himself in the leg in Morgan Park on the South Side.

Chicago police initially said he was shot about 9:47 p.m. in the 11000 block of South Loomis Street and took himself to Roseland Community Hospital. His condition was stabilized.

Police said the man admitted to investigators that he shot himself.

Man, 67, missing from Roseland

A 67-year-old man was reported missing from Roseland on the South Side.

Herbert “Buddy” Alford was last seen Sept. 11 in the area of the 100 block of West 115th Street, Chicago police said in a missing person alert. He is known to visit the area of 113th Street and King Drive.

He is 5-foot-11, 180 pounds with brown eyes and gray hair. He was last seen wearing a green T-shirt, blue jeans, brown gym shoes and a silver cross necklace.

Man wanted for attempted child luring in Belmont Central: police

Chicago police are looking for a man who tried luring a child into a car Tuesday in Belmont Central on the Northwest Side.

A boy was walking westbound about 8:20 p.m. in the 6300 block of West Wrightwood Avenue when he saw a man sitting in a parked black Nissan Versa, Chicago police said. The man motioned for him to come toward him, but the boy walked away.

The man is described as in his 40s, with a medium build and wore a gray T-shirt, police said. He’s bald, has a small black beard and a tattoo on his right arm.

Man shot in Garfield Park

A man was wounded in a shooting Friday in Garfield Park on the West Side.

The 19-year-old was standing outside with a group of people in the 300 block of South Kilbourn Avenue when he heard gunfire and felt pain, Chicago police said.

He was struck in the foot, and he took himself to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said. The man didn’t see who shot him or where gunfire came from.

No one is in custody as Area North detectives investigate.

Man charged with murder in fatal stabbing of son of Chicago firefighter

A man was charged with fatally stabbing the son of a Chicago firefighter and then setting his car ablaze in Grand Crossing on the South Side.

Ronald Franklin, 34, is charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of arson in the June 15 killing of 25-year-old Tyler Bernicky, Chicago police said.

Bernicky was found lying on the sidewalk about 6 a.m. in the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. He had been stabbed twice in the chest, several times in the arm and hand and once in the ankle.

Franklin was arrested Wednesday in the 1800 block of West Lake Street after he was identified as the person who allegedly participated in the stabbing, police said. He also allegedly set Bernicky’s car on fire near the scene.

A source confirmed Bernicky was the son of a lieutenant in the fire department who is stationed at a fire house near O’Hare airport.

Franklin is scheduled to appear in bound court Friday.

10 wounded in Thursday shootings

At least 10 people were wounded in shootings across Chicago on Thursday, including a 14-year-old boy who was grazed by a bullet in Humboldt Park on the West Side.

He was walking with a friend about 4 p.m. in the 3800 block of West Chicago Avenue when he saw two men fighting, Chicago police said. The boy heard two shots and realized he had been grazed in the leg.

He was taken to Rush University Medical Center where he is in good condition, police said.

Less than an hour earlier, two men, 19 and 22, were shot a few blocks away in Humboldt Park.

About 3:17 p.m., they were standing in the 3300 block of West Le Moyne Street when someone in a vehicle unleashed gunfire, police said. Both men were struck in the leg and taken to Norwegian American Hospital. Their conditions were stabilized.

Hours later, three men were wounded in a shooting in Englewood on the South Side.

They were in an alley about 8:43 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Winchester Avenue when a dark-colored two-door vehicle drove up, stopped and someone inside opened fire in the direction of the trio, police said. The vehicle drove off after the shots were fired.

A 47-year-old man was hit in the leg and taken to Holy Cross Hospital while another man, 49, was also hit in the leg and taken to St. Bernard Hospital, police said. A third man, 48, was struck in the head and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. All of their conditions were stabilized.

Around 9 p.m., officers found a man unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds in Homan Square on the West Side, police said. They responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 3700 block of West Flournoy Street and found the 26-year-old on the sidewalk. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Less than an hour later, a woman was shot in Garfield Park on the West Side.

The 19-year-old was getting out of a car around 9:45 p.m. in the 3100 block of West Madison Street when she saw a male on foot firing shots, police said. She was hit twice in the leg but was able to take herself to Mount Sinai Hospital where her condition was stabilized.

Minutes later, a man was wounded by gunfire in Back of the Yards on the South Side.

He was sitting outside about 9:49 p.m. in the 5200 block of South Wood Street when he was shot four times in the leg and once in the groin, police said. The 37-year-old was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where his condition was stabilized.

Thursday’s earliest shooting was reported in Heart of Chicago on the Southwest Side.

About 2:12 p.m., a 23-year-old man was walking east in the 1800 block of West 21st Place when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was hit in the leg, and was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition was stabilized.

A person was killed, and four others wounded in citywide gun violence on Wednesday.
