Authorities are looking for a driver whose Jeep fatally struck a man early Sunday as he was crossing the street on the Near North Side, police said.
About 4 a.m., the 23-year-old was in a crosswalk at the intersection of West Chicago Avenue and North LaSalle Street when he was struck by the white Jeep, which was speeding south on LaSalle at the time, according to Chicago Police.
The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately provide information on the fatality.
The Jeep did not stop and sped away after the crash. The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
