2 killed, 4 wounded in city shootings Monday

Two men were killed and at least four more wounded in shootings across Chicago on Monday.

The most recent homicide happened about 8 a.m. in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side, where 41-year-old Taurus A. Williams was shot in the head, side and hip while driving in the 9700 block of South Lafayette, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Williams, of the 300 block of West 100th Street, kept driving to the 10000 block of South Wentworth, where he crashed into two other vehicles, authorities said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 8:46 a.m.

The first killing happened about 3:40 a.m. in the Southwest Side Brighton Park neighborhood. Officers responding to a call of a person shot found a 26-year-old man on a sidewalk in the 2500 block of West 47th Street, with gunshot wounds to the shoulder and leg, police said. He died at Mount Sinai Hospital. Authorities have not released his name.

The latest shooting happened during a robbery about 8 p.m. in the Norwood Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side. A 33-year-old man was walking in the 7300 block of West Higgins when someone with a gun walked up and demanded his things, police said. The pair struggled for the gun, which went off, hitting the man in the hand. He later showed up at Community First Medical Center in good condition.

About 4:20 p.m., someone walked up from behind a 19-year-old man in the 5700 block of West Augusta in the Austin neighborhood and shot him repeatedly in the upper body before taking off in a car, police said. The teen was taken to Mount Sinai in critical condition.

About 3 p.m., a 24-year-old man heard gunfire in the 1400 block of South Trumbull and realized he’d been shot in the arm in the Lawndale neighborhood, police said. He took himself to Mount Sinai in good condition.

Monday’s first nonfatal shooting happened about 1:45 p.m. in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. Another vehicle pulled up to a 22-year-old man who was parking his vehicle in the 900 block of North Kedvale, and someone inside it shot him in the head, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

The day’s violence followed a weekend that saw 37 people shot. Five of those victims died, including the early Monday slaying on 47th Street.
