A 17-year-old boy was killed in a South Austin neighborhood shooting Monday night on the West Side, police said.
He had just exited his vehicle about 8:30 p.m. and was entering a home in the 500 block of South Lockwood when an armed male in a black hoodie confronted him and demanded his car keys, according to Chicago Police. A struggle ensued, during which the gun went off and the boy was struck. The suspect then ran away.
The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest and arm, police said. He was later pronounced dead.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately provide further details.
