A 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest Monday night in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side, according to Chicago Police.
The 24-year-old man was on the street about 8:30 p.m. in the 3800 block of West Augusta when he fired shots at the occupants of a black Chevrolet car, police said. The car then pulled over and the occupants returned fire, striking the man in the chest.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately have information on the death.
A police source said the man was a documented gang member and the shooting was gang-related.
