Waukegan convicted felon charged with possessing handgun

(WAUKEGAN) A 39-year-old north suburban Waukegan man was charged Monday with possessing a handgun as a convicted felon and gang member.

About 9 p.m., deputies of the Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force stopped a vehicle near North Jackson and Low Avenue in Waukegan, according to a statement from Lake County sheriff’s office. Larry Myers Jr., a passenger in the vehicle, was found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun during the stop.

Myers was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a street gang member and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, the sheriff’s office said.

He is being held in the Lake County Jail on $75,000 bond, the sheriff’s office said. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 1.
