A man was killed in an Austin neighborhood shooting that left another wounded by errant gunfire late Thursday on the West Side.
About 10:45 p.m., officers responding to a call of a person shot in the 5000 block of West Concord found a 22-year-old man on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Chicago Police. He was dead at the scene.
A 34-year-old man who was standing on a corner nearby was shot in the right leg and taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where his condition was stabilized, police said. He wasn’t thought to be an intended target.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released the younger man’s name, pending notification of his family. Police said he had documented gang ties.
No one was in custody early Friday.
