(TINLEY PARK) A retired Chicago Public Schools teacher won $1,050,000 with a “Lucky Day Lotto” ticket she bought on her birthday earlier this month.
Sue Swanson bought three tickets on her 68th birthday on Oct. 2 and one of them matched all five numbers – 08 – 19 – 35 – 36 – 45 – in the evening drawing the next day, according to a statement from the Illinois Lottery.
“I want to thank the Illinois Lottery for the best birthday gift ever,” Swanson said in the statement.
Swanson, who was a CPS elementary school teacher from 1970 to 2005, said she plans to use her winnings to donate to her favorite charities, complete a remodeling project on her Tinley Park home and buy a new car.
The 7-Eleven at 17055 S. Oak Park Ave. in Tinley Park received a bonus of $10,500, or 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.
