A 28-year-old man has been charged with pointing a gun at an off-duty Chicago Police officer Saturday afternoon in the South Deering neighborhood on the Far South Side.

Ivan Ayers pointed a gun at the off-duty officer about 4 p.m. in the 2400 block of East 105th Street, according to Chicago Police. A struggle then ensued and the officer fired one shot from his weapon. No one was injured in the shooting.

Ayers dropped his weapon and ran away, but was later arrested in the 10300 block of South Crandon, police said.

He was charged with one count of aggravated assault of a peace officer with a weapon and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon, both felonies, police said. Ayers, of the 6500 block of North Hoyne, is scheduled to appear in bond court Monday.
