(CHANNAHON) DUI charges have been filed against the other driver after a man died Monday afternoon, nearly two weeks after he was injured in a two-vehicle crash on I-55 in southwest suburban Channahon.
On Aug. 9, 60-year-old Michael D. Deboard was the driver of a 1997 Ford Aspire that was northbound on I-55 near Bluff Road, according to Illinois State Police.
His car was rear-ended by a 2014 Kia Optima driven by Lucas M. Roth of St. Peters, Missouri, ISP said. The impact forced the Ford off the roadway, where it crashed into the right ditch embankment. The Kia went off the roadway to the left and drove into the left ditch embankment.
Both drivers, the sole occupants of their vehicles, were transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Deboard, who lived in Braidwood, was pronounced dead at 3:19 p.m. Monday, the Will County coroner’s office said. Cause and manner of death will be determined at a later date, pending medical and police investigations.
On Thursday, ISP announced that Roth, 27, has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence. He is being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
