UPDATES WITH FATALITY
A man died Sunday morning after he fell onto the Red Line tracks in the Loop, fire officials said.
The CTA cut the power to Red Line trains shortly before 6 a.m. after a report of a person on the southbound tracks near the former Washington station at 128 N. State St., according to CTA spokeswoman Tammy Chase. The station closed in 2006.
The man, whose exact age was not known, made contact with the third rail, said Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Walter Schroeder. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately provide information on the fatality.
As of 6:36 a.m., Red Line trains were running normally after being temporarily rerouted to the elevated tracks between the Fullerton and Cermak stations, according to the CTA.
