UPDATES WITH DETAILS

A man was found dead in a fire Tuesday morning in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

Crews responded about 9:30 a.m. to a man trapped in a burning apartment in the 3500 block of West Douglas, according to Chicago Police and Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.

The apartment had working smoke detectors and the family woke up, but could not get inside the bedroom that was on fire, according to the fire department.

The 35-year-old man found in the room suffered burns and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the fatality, but the victim’s name was not released Tuesday morning.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, police and fire officials said. The Office of Fire Investigation is at the scene.
