Illinois State Police officers fatally shot a man on Friday in west suburban Lyons when he fired at officers.
The shooting happened about 5:54 p.m. at Ogden Avenue and Joliet Road, according to state police.
State police were assisting investigators with the Sycamore Police Department in a homicide investigation, police said. They located the suspect in a vehicle and began to follow him. Multiple agencies were assisting in the surveillance.
The suspect began firing at officers as they followed him, police said. Officers returned fire and fatally shot the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene and a firearm was recovered.
His identity was not released pending notification of family, police said.
No officers were injured.
The shooting remained under investigation Friday night.
