A man charged with pointing a gun at Chicago Police officers after a shooting Sunday afternoon in the Southwest Side Gage Park neighborhood has been ordered held on a $1 million bond.
Paul Kevin Rivers, 26, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated assault of a peace officer with a weapon, both felonies, according to Chicago Police.
During a bond hearing Tuesday, Rivers was ordered held at Cook County Jail on a $1 million bond, the Cook County sheriff’s office said.
About 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Chicago Lawn District officers were on patrol in the 5600 block of South Campbell when they heard shots fired, according to police.
The officers approached to investigate and Rivers ran away, police said. They chased him and Rivers pointed a handgun at an officer, who fired his weapon.
Rivers was not shot and was taken into custody, police said.
The officers found an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Two officers suffered minor injuries. A gun was found at the scene, police said.
Rivers, of the 6600 block of South Wolcott, is due back in court on Sept. 6, the sheriff’s office said.
