An Illinois State Police trooper was taken to the hospital Thursday evening after two people were wounded in a shooting in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.
The shooting happened about 8:35 p.m. near South Vincennes Avenue and West 77th Street, according to sources.
One person was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Stroger Hospital, while another person was taken in fair-to-serious conditioin to St. Bernard Hospital, said Fire Media Affairs Chief Juan Hernandez.
A trooper was also taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Hernandez said. Additional information on the nature of the trooper’s injuries was not immediately available.
This is the second Illinois State Police-involved shooting in less than a week. On Saturday, a 15-year-old boy was shot by a state trooper after he tried to run over a trooper with a stolen car, police said at the time.
