UPDATES WITH CORRECTED CONDITION AND DETAILS, DRIVER NOT DEAD
A woman who suffered a medical emergency crashed her SUV into two other vehicles and a fence Tuesday morning in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
The 64-year-old woman was driving a Mitsubishi SUV west on 83rd Street near Halsted at 7:19 a.m. when she struck a GMC SUV, according to Chicago Police.
The driver of the GMC got out of his vehicle to assess the damage and the woman drove away west on 83rd, police said.
Near 83rd and Morgan, she rear-ended a Cadillac SUV, then veered and crashed into a chain-link fence, police said.
She was extricated from the Mitsubishi and was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
Police initially said the woman had died, but said Wednesday morning that her condition had been stabilized. She is thought to have suffered a medical emergency during the crash, and no citations have been issued.
The other two drivers were not injured.
