UPDATES WITH POLICE COMMENT
(HINSDALE) A pedestrian was struck by an Amtrak train Tuesday afternoon in west suburban Hinsdale.
About 2:45 p.m., eastbound Southwest Chief Train #4 hit a 55-year-old man who was trespassing along Metra BNSF tracks near Hinsdale Avenue and Stough Street, according to Hinsdale Police and Amtrak.
The Darien resident was dead at the scene, police said. The DuPage County coroner’s office has not released his name.
No one was hurt on the train, which had been scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 3:15 p.m., an Amtrak spokesman said.
The rail crossing was closed for about three hours as authorities investigated. Metra BNSF trains were delayed throughout the evening.
