UPDATES WITH CHARGES
A misdemeanor charge has been filed against the man at the wheel of a truck that fatally struck an 84-year-old woman Thursday afternoon in the Southwest Side Little Village neighborhood.
Valdimar C. Gray, 29, faces one count of operating an uninsured vehicle following the crash that happened about 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of 28th Street and Drake, according to Chicago Police.
Gray was driving a Nissan west on 28th Street when he made a left turn onto southbound Drake and hit the elderly woman, police said.
She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she died within the hour, authorities said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released her name.
Gray, of the 3400 block of West Chicago, was also ticketed for failure to obey a stop sign, failure to yield to a pedestrian in an intersection and failure to carry a driver’s license. He is scheduled to appear in traffic court on Feb. 7, 2017.
