An extension of a pilot program for additional bus service on the #11 Lincoln route through June 2017 has been approved by the Chicago Transit Authority.
Bus service between Fullerton and Western avenues on the route will continue to be offered to further evaluate demand and collect community feedback, the CTA said Wednesday.
The pilot operates on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and extends the route south from the Western Brown Line stop to the Fullerton stop for Red/Purple/Brown line trains.
The program adds more than 40 additional stops and connects the route to key destinations and businesses along the Lincoln corridor, the CTA said. By extending the program, the officials can get information about demand through all four seasons. The transit authority plans to work with local businesses to promote ridership.
The pilot began in June 2016 in response from community input, the CTA said. When the program ends, officials will evaluate whether to continue the service.
