UPDATES WITH POLICE STATEMENT
(JOLIET) A man died Friday night after he was shot in the chest in southwest suburban Joliet.
Officers responded to a person down in the parkway on McDonough Street, just east of Ottawa Street at 10:18 p.m., and found 56-year-old James D. Waddell with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton and the Will County coroner’s office.
Police found a vehicle running a short distance away, Benton said. Witnesses said they heard shots fired and saw a black male running away.
Waddell, a Joliet resident, was taken to Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he was pronounced dead at 10:48 p.m. Friday in the emergency room, according to the coroner’s office.
