A man has been charged with stabbing and critically wounding another man early Friday in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

Matthew Reardon, 32, faces one felony count of attempted murder, according to Chicago Police.

The 49-year-old man was walking in an alley in the 6200 block of South Marshfield about 1 a.m. Friday when he was confronted by Reardon, who he didn’t know, police said.

They got into a fight that ended with Reardon stabbing the older man in the back, head, lip, cheek, nose and hand, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Officers responding to the attack saw Reardon, who matched the description of the suspect from the police radio, and took him into custody.

Reardon, of the 5200 block of West Warner, was scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday.
