UPDATES WITH CHARGES (NOTE: Mugshot for Neil Thomas not available)
Three men have been charged after two of them were shot by the employee of a store they were trying to rob Sunday night in the West Rogers Park neighborhood on the North Side.
Stephon Kinchen, 18; Anthony Simpkins-McDonald, 21; and Neil Thomas, 24, all face two felony counts of attempted robbery armed with a firearm, according to a statement from Chicago Police.
About 9:45 p.m. Sunday, the men entered the store in the 7400 block of North Western and announced a robbery, police said. A male working at the store at the time then discharged his weapon, striking two of the men before they left the scene.
Thomas was shot in the upper body and showed up at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, a police source said. Kinchen suffered a graze wound to the right forearm and had his condition stabilized at Swedish Covenant Hospital. Simpkins-McDonald was not injured, but all three men were taken into custody a short time later.
The store employee, who has a valid concealed carry license, suffered minor injuries in the incident, but refused medical attention, police said.
Kinchen, of the 7300 block of North Damen, and Simpkins-McDonald and Thomas, who both live in the 7500 block of North Winchester, were all scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.
