(ST. CHARLES) A roof fire Monday evening caused $10,000 worth of damage to a business in west suburban St. Charles.
Crews were called at 7:29 p.m. when a supervisor noticed smoke at the Pactiv Corporation, 315 S. Kirk Road, according to a statement from the St. Charles Fire Department. They arrived to find smoke in the office area and a small fire in the roof along the northeast corner.
Firefighters had to cut away the roof to expose and extinguish the fire, officials said. All fire department crews had left the scene by 9:57 p.m.
The supervisor who called 911 got all the employees out of the building before firefighters arrived and no injuries were reported, according to the fire department. The fire, which caused an estimated $10,000 in damage, appeared to have been caused by roofing work done on the building earlier in the day.
